Yes, I have to say if one positive thing came out of this for me it was to call attention to how unsafe Gasoline Cars are. I have no idea so many went up in flames. I just sent an email to an electrician to find out how much it would cost to have a NEMA 14-50 plug installed on my wife's side of the garage.

Kleist - perhaps it is semantic quibbling, but the word suppressant is by definition active. There is no suppressant system on the S of ANY kind. It does not have the ability to do anything about stopping a fire in a given location. It can only keep it from spreading passively. A suppressant system gets actively involved in putting out the fire.

The suppressant systems on boats have heat, flame, and smoke sensors in various locations, and can target suppressant chemicals using nozzles that hit the specific areas where the fire is located. There is only a passive barrier system on the S. A system that is very effective.

@VOVANN80: There is already 1/4" steel armour under the car...

Plus you'll need 25 tons of force and a freak accident to breach the steel armor...

@Conroy is working overtime to spread FUD. He needs to be on the clock for another 14 hours to earn enough to buy an ice cream cone.

Flagged!!!

In this case Conroy is right. Armor plate is aluminum. If you don't believe, calculate how heavy steel plate would be.

- MS is less likely to burn than ICE car.
- Fire spreads slower, so no injuries because of fire.
- Battery fire releases much less energy than gasoline fire. Simply because there is much less energy.
- Battery placement makes it vulnerable to hit from below. It also makes car very strong. This has probably saved lives already.
